Kamekelle

We love lizardfolk here at the Gel Cubicles lab, but we think it’s a shame that all of them are basically iguanas with thumbs. After all, there are many sorts of lizard out there, and not all of them are large, at least a bit gross, and offputtingly hungry. Surely there should be more lizards?

Well, now there are more lizards. The kamekelle are a new, sneakier reptilian race, with grabby tongues and camouflaging skin to help it disrupt and deceive the players. On the one hand, they are a normal amount of hungry, but on the other, they are mostly quite evil. You’re going to have to watch the trees, and pray they aren’t invisible while you do…

Kamekelle

Certain stretches of the dense, untamed jungle are avoided not because of the dangerous wildlife or treacherous terrain, but because of the whispered tales of shadowy figures stalking—and slaying—travelers who enter without great care. Those who have survived a foray into these territories speak of men with the faces of exotic lizards, who melt into the leaves and branches of trees to hide from their prey. They strike quickly, with strange pink tongues and sharp blades before disappearing in a blink. These territorial reptilian men call themselves kamekelle.

Strict Code. Kamekelle operate in the shadows, but unbeknownst to most outsiders they follow a strict honor code that dictates how their society is arranged. Success in hunting, battle, subterfuge, assassination, and strange games of skill come together to determine a kamekelle’s social status amongst its kin. This code is also the reason kamekelle appear so aggressive and mysterious to outsiders— most strangers unwittingly cause some great offense well before they even realize they are being watched by kamekelle scouts.

Protective and Insular. Kamekelle reside in remote, difficult to reach villages that are jealously protected from intruders, knowing and otherwise. They are cautious and anxious around outsiders, even those who have seemingly demonstrated no ill intent. Most kamekelle are not actively aggressive, but they will not tolerate anything which they believe threatens their home or their kin. Such perceived threats will be dealt with swiftly and without mercy.

Kamekelle Shadow

All kamekelle are capable of defending themselves and skulking in the darkness provided by their jungle homes. This natural talent is not always sufficient to protect their home or defeat their enemies: such is the need for kamekelle shadows, the ruthless elite that take up leadership roles during times of crisis and conflict. Otherwise, kamekelle shadows are only called to act when a task requires extreme precision and subtlety—such as the assassination of an enemy’s leaders.
