Expanded Racial Feats IV
Our previous efforts in expanding racial feats have been focused on some of the more popular entries in the 5e catalog of lineages - this time, we’re giving some love to our extra-planar friends, the gith and genasi - as well as tortles, for good measure!
The gith are known for their extra-planar endeavors, their psionic powers, and their eternal crusade to stamp out the brain-eating aberrations known as mind flayers. The three feats presented here are each designed to emphasize one of the facets of gith lore and how a gith adventurer may play into such aspects. Gith Mind Hunter prepares an adventurer as best one can to defend their mind against mental assault and discern the schemes of mind flayers. The githyanki and githzerai specific feats augment a gith with thematic abilities tied to their subrace - be it the strong mental will and influence of the githyanki or the psionic-martial prowess of the githzerai.
On the matters of Genasi, somewhat in line with Gelatinous Cubicles' recent project, Enjoiner, the elemental aspect of these half-genies can now be melded together. Whether you wish to call your new fire-water genasi a ‘steam’ genasi is entirely up to you.
Lastly, tortles needed the option to return to the sea. We demand it and so shall it be. Sea tortles. That is all.
Deep Sea Adaptation
Prerequisite: Tortle
Your ancestors have adapted to life in open water unlike your largely land-based kin. As you’ve matured, these traits have become more prominent. You gain the following benefits:
Your Strength or Wisdom score increases by 1, up to a maximum of 20.
You gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
You can hold your breath for up to 8 hours.
While on the Material plane, you always know which way is north, and you have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks made to navigate.
Elemental Evolution
Prerequisite: Genasi
Rarely, as a genasi matures, latent elemental bloodlines manifest in them, blending with their already potent natural abilities. You gain the following benefits:
Your Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence or Wisdom score increases by 1, up to a maximum of 20.
Choose a genasi subrace other than one you already possess. You gain all of the subrace features, excluding statistical increases, that subrace provides.
Your appearance may change as a result of this development. You are still obviously a genasi.
Gith Mind Hunter
Prerequisite: Gith
It is in your blood to combat the cognitive parasitism of the
illithid and their minions. You gain the following benefits:
Your Strength, Intelligence, or Wisdom score increases by 1, up to a maximum of 20.
You have resistance to psychic damage.
Your thoughts cannot be read by telepathy or other means unless you allow it.
You always know when you are targeted with a divination spell. If that divination spell requires a saving throw, you can use your reaction to gain advantage on that saving throw. You can gain advantage in this way a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, and regain all expended uses after completing a long rest.
Githyanki Princeling
Prerequisite: Gith (githyanki)
You embody the prowess and commanding aura of the githyanki elite. You gain the following benefits:
Your Strength or Intelligence score increases by 1, up to a maximum of 20.
You can use Intelligence instead of Charisma when making Persuasion, Deception, and Intimidation ability checks.
You can take an action to coax your allies to violence. Choose a willing creature within 30 feet. That creature can use its reaction to make one attack against a creature within reach of a weapon they are holding. If this attack hits, it deals additional psychic damage equal to your Strength modifier.
Githzerai Mindfist
Prerequisite: Gith (githzerai)
Fortune and diligance have allowed you to harness your psionic prowess more than the average githzerai. You gain the following benefits:
Your Intelligence or Wisdom score increases by 1, up to a maximum of 20.
You can cast the mage hand cantrip as a bonus action, and use it with a bonus action while it is present.
As an action you can lash out at enemies using your psionics, making a melee spell attack targeting a creature within 30 feet of your mage hand. On a hit, it deals 1d8 + your Wisdom modifier force damage. If you have the Extra Attack feature, you can replace one of your attacks with this attack.
