We’re fans of familiars and beast companions, as we’ve recently made clear, but now not only can you have a familiar with a little extra stopping power, you can have a familiar smarter than the average sorcerer. Why talk to the fighter or barbarian when you can talk to your baby griffon? Just don’t be mean, as they’re now smart enough to run off with your very rare magic item. Careful!

Wondrous item, very rare
This pendant glows with a soothing blue light. When you tie this pendant around a willing Large or smaller Beast or familiar, the creature gains the following benefits:
The creature’s size increases, to a maximum of Large.
The creature’s Intelligence becomes 10, unless it is already higher.
The creature learns to speak, read and write each language you know.
The creature learns two wizard cantrips of your choice that don’t deal damage.
The pendant can only be removed if the creature chooses to remove it. If the creature dies, the pendant comes free and falls to the ground in a space within 5 feet of the slain creature.
