Oath of Passion
In celebration of the New Year, we are happy to introduce our first paladin archetype! Hard to say why it took us over a year to get around to it, but Julie has come through for us! Naturally, the Oath of Passion is the most celebratory of the holy knights, inspired as much by the more jovially wholesome side of frat brothers as by religious knights.
The Oath of Passion is designed to be a very social archetype, using it's mastery of revelry to mediate disputes and ingratiate itself to others, acting as a more informal kind of diplomat. However, the Oath is also devoted to cultivating much closer relationships; if you're a fan of flirtatious bard characters but you're looking for something new, then Passion is the oath for you.
In combat, Oath of Passion brings the paladin's stopping power to bear in a new way, using spells and Channel Divinity to use the charmed condition in battle, and to protect their beloved party members. For maximum benefit, pair with an enchantment wizard or, better yet, a College of Bonds bard, and keep your enemies guessing if they should even be fighting such lovely, trustworthy heroes.
We hope you enjoy our penultimate first subclass, and that you're as excited as we are for what we intend to be a very big year for us here at Gelatinous Cubicles. If you want to help our cause, we're devilishly close to reaching our next Patreon goal, which will have us launch an official community Discord server! That is but one of many reasons to support us, and more are in the works even now.
To see all of our more recent, premium content, join our Patreon, where all our spiciest new brews are at your disposal. We’re slowly remastering the highlights of our backlog, and if you’re a patron, you can vote on what gets updated next! And, if you want to ask us about our homebrew, new or old, our Discord is public and full of all kinds of brewers and internet goblins. If you’re either of those, we’d love to hear from you!
Oath of Passion
Paladins who follow the Oath of Passion embody their deepest desires and passions, fighting to defend them and for their right to pursue them. These paladins possess enthralling and alluring personalities that draw in the people surrounding them; a characteristic they use to obtain the apples of their eyes’ fancy. They are often travelers who seek to live life to the fullest, pursue the best of company, indulge in the wildest pleasures and festivals, and fight for those they love, as well as for the rights of others to pursue their happiness. Sometimes these paladins are called rainbow knights and heart chasers; other times, they are referred to as debonairs, excellent friends, and awfully annoying.
Tenets of Passion
Paladins who take this oath follow tenets that foster passion and care in themselves and others.
Desire. Desire is never wrong; pursue your passions with fervor and without shame, and fight to allow others to do the same.
Chivalry. Friendships and romances often come with customs based on your own culture and viewpoint and those of the people you pursue. They should be honored whenever possible.
Respect. No matter the nature, relationships are always two sided. Respect and value the wishes of other parties.
Love. Care for and defend those you want and love. Without them, you would be lost.

Channel Divinity
3rd-level Oath of Passion feature
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.
Overbearing Presence. You can use your Channel Divinity to fluster and overwhelm others. As an action, you can attempt to grapple a creature within 5 feet of you, and on a success, the creature is charmed by you. While charmed in this way, the target views you as a romantic interest or a passionate friend. While you are within 5 feet of a target charmed in this way, they have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to perceive any creature other than you, they do not view being grappled by you as hostile, and you can move your full movement while grappling them.
A creature charmed in this way can use their action to make a Wisdom saving throw. The target has disadvantage on the saving throw if they are within 5 feet of you. This effect ends on a target after 1 minute, when they succeed the saving throw, or when they take damage.
Party Animal. You can use your Channel Divinity to embody jubilation and gregariousness. As a bonus action, you gain a +5 bonus to all Charisma checks made to perform, impress others, and appear as likeable and charming to those you socialize with for 10 minutes.
Aura of Infatuation
7th-level Oath of Passion feature
Your presence naturally amplifies the impassioned feelings of those nearby. If a creature within 10 feet of you would roll a saving throw against being charmed with advantage, you can force them to instead roll the saving throw normally. In addition, charmed creatures of your choice within this radius have disadvantage on all attack rolls and ability checks while they can see the creature they are charmed by.
At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.
Defend the Beloved
15th-level Oath of Passion feature
You’ve learned to vigilantly defend the bonds you’ve laboriously forged. When you finish a long rest, you can bond to a number of willing creatures equal to your proficiency bonus, if you are familiar with them and they are within 60 feet. For each bonded creature, you always know each one’s location and whether their current hit point total is less than their maximum, so long as you are both on the same plane. Your connection to these bonded creatures lasts until you bond creatures again, you die, or you use your action to end any or all of them.
In addition, as an action you can intercede to help a bonded creature in need. Choose a bonded creature you can see within 60 feet. You can move up to your movement toward the creature and make two weapon attacks, and you gain a bonus to both attack rolls equal to the number of bonded creatures you can see. All creatures have disadvantage on attack rolls against the bonded creature until the start of your next turn.
Once you have interceded in this way, you can’t do so again until you complete a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 3rd level or higher to use it again.
Avatar of Love
20th-level Oath of Passion feature
At 20th level, you can embody the limitless love and passion that dwells within you and others. As an action, you can gain the following benefits for 1 minute:
You gain a flying speed equal to half your movement speed. You have a +5 bonus to all Charisma (Persuasion or Performance) checks you make while flying.
Any creature who targets you with an attack or a harmful spell must first make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the attack or spell fails.
At the start of each of your turns, you can force a creature within 30 feet of you to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they are charmed by you until the end of your next turn.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
